The fact that she ends up signing blockbusters with minuscule roles is the sad part of her career. Kareena Kapoor proves to us what a fabulous and talented actress she is. The film is also watchable because of its leads. If he wrote the 2nd half as the 1st which is fun filled and less preachy, this film would have been a cracker. Which also brings me to the question of what Balki was thinking while writing the movie? The problem with Ki and Ka is that Balki takes the story very seriously. Both the actors steal the show in the 10 mins they have but those 10 mins also makes the viewer think about marriage and roles a husband and wife play.
Seriously !! Very ironically, when the movie loses steam, Balki takes help of Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan who stared in Abhimaan and comes with a nice interesting piece between them. There is also one stupid mandatory fight scene to show that Kabir is still a man. The only difference is here Kia gets jealous of Kabir's success. And, finally to ensure that there is a dramatic end they turn the film into a very old Amitabh Bachchan classic called Abhimaan. So there is a stupid scene of Kia worried that she is pregnant and takes multiple pregnancy tests.

The problem in 2nd half is that Balki and his co writer Virmani have no clue how to take the movie forward. Its when the 2nd half starts that the cracks arise in the marriage and that when the movie starts to sink. How Kabir convinces her to marry him? How Kabir takes over running the house and becomes a favorite of all the ladies in the apartment. Kabir is not the usual Hindi hero he cries and tells Kia that housewife is an artist. They get married but how long will this last? The 1st half of the movie is fun filled. Kareena Kapoor aka Kia doesn't want to get married and have kids as that will ruin her career while Arjun Kapoor aka Kabir is very happy to play the house husband with no ambitions inspite being from a wealthy family and B School topper. Ki and Ka has one hell of an interesting premise. Cooking is shown extensively whilst endorsing several cooking based brands aligned to Kareena's marketing ventures. The other passion for him is cooking-both for his family and later develops that as a profession.
His passion for trains is even picturised even in one of the songs. He also has an exclusive toy rail set-up in his room and kitchen. Arjun is passionate about trains and is off to National Rail Museum with Kareena for datings. Star guest Amitabh Bachan adds glitter to the script too. The tussle is resolved with the matter convinced by two super ladies- Swaroop Sampath and Jaya Bachan and the movie ends on a happy note. While Kareena succeeds in her career and is overshadowed by Arjun's out of turn popularity whilst endorsing several brands, giving talk shows etc leading to differences between the two and thus an ego tussle. The story then follows the swap of roles of husband managing the household while supporting a spouse's career. The two meet in a typical Bollywood style and after several outings in Rail museum and restaurants, decide to get married albeit without much fanfare through a registered marriage. Arjun Kapoor is a rich son and so is Kareena Kapoor who is a very successful marketing executive well supported her boss- as shown in the movie. The movie follows the trails of young married "rich" couple, their struggles to manage work-life balance, ego battles and then the happy ending.
